The incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) have elected the Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission, Prof Alidu Seidu at the Tamale Central primaries. Prof Alidu Seidu will represent the NDC in the by-election slated for September 30 in the Tamale Central Constituency.

Prof Alidu Seidu was overwhelmingly elected with 840 votes out of a total of 1,511 votes. The remaining 671 votes were shared by 11 other candidates.

Why the by-elections?
The by-election has become necessary after the tragic demise of the MP, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed on August 6 in a helicopter crash with 7 others.
The New Patriotic Party however has decided not to contest in the election as a way of honouring the late MP.
Who is Prof Seidu Alidu?
Dr. Seidu Alidu is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Studies, at the University of Ghana. He was also a Donahue Institute Scholar on United States’ Political Thought at the University of Massachusetts in 2014.
Moreover, he is a visiting lecturer to twelve Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) Universities in Africa; University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, University of Dar-es-Salam, University of Nairobi and the University of Botswana.
